RBTS manages the acquisition of a wide range of systems and equipment, and material and services for those systems and equipment, at best value for money for its customers.

The systems and equipment include vehicles, ships, aircraft, electronics, IT, communications, weapons, security, surveillance, and simulation & training. Material includes spares, components and assemblies. Services include maintenance, repair & overhaul (MRO) and upgrade, supply and training.

Fundamentally, RBTS performs compliance-focused acquisition: sourcing of potential suppliers, tendering (including developing Request For Quotation (RFQ) and assessment framework), evaluation, contracting and post contract management activities. The role has since been enlarged and is evolving to provide higher value add by:

	Conducting more proactive, informed and planned analysis of customer requirements

	Assisting customers to develop their requirements and specifications, and providing support to the down select of and negotiations with preferred suppliers

	Adopting best market practices and applying innovative acquisition strategies (e.g. Performance-Based Periodic Contracts, Public Private Partnerships (PPP))
