BRIDEX 2009 Will Open Up Opportunities For SMEs
17/10/2008

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday launched Royal Brunei Technical Services' new website, www.rbts.com.bn, during the 20th Convocation Festival of University Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

The new corporate website will provide insights into RBTS and its capabilities. RBTS is also the official organizer for the 2009 Brunei International Defence Exhibition (BRIDEX), which is scheduled to be held at a new purpose-built exhibition centre in Jerudong from August 11 to August 14, 2009.

This would be the second time such an exhibition will be held in Brunei. The first one was held in 2007.

BRIDEX, which aims to be the region's premier defense and security event, will showcase the latest, innovative and value-enhancing technology solutions to address security

challenges.

The exhibition will focus exclusively on the most senior government and defense policymakers, and is expected to attract the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of defense and security systems.

During the event, critical issues facing defense forces and security agencies in Asia and around the world will also be addressed. These include "C4ISTAR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence & Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance)", "Homeland security", "Supporting deployed forces on peacekeeping/support and humanitarian operations", as well as "Border surveillance and protection".

BRIDEX 2009 will also provide opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), as RBTS is looking for service providers to support the huge event.

Two briefings outlining the range of business opportunities available for BRIDEX 2009 will be held for local SMEs in Room 4, Lower Ground Floor, UBD Chancellor Hall, at 9am and 3pm today (October 17). RBTS also has a booth at the UBD Convocation Festival 2008, where members of the public can learn more about BRIDEX 2009.

Earlier, RBTS and QinetiQ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the transfer of technology, skills and knowledge from QinetiQ to RBTS and the provision of training local staff.

According to the CEO of RBTS, Lt Col (Rtd) Amir Hamzah Hanafi, the MoU is related to a collaboration work between RBTS and QinetiQ towards establishing a centre for experimentation, as well as modeling and simulation.

"It is about cost effective decision making, especially for the top decision makers, so that they know what risks they are going to face when making such big decisions," he said.
