THE first two female technicians of the Royal Brunei Technical Services (RBTS) have left for Atlanta, the United States to undergo a 13-days training on system and weapon maintenance.
System simulation technicians, Emy Nurfateen Hj Ali and Siti Nabihah Abu Bakar from the RBTS Training Simulation Centre will be trained at the Meggitt Training System Inc, USA, a TSC system provider.
The training aims to turn the system simulation technicians into specialists in maintaining the system and simulated weapons used at TSC.
The training would enable the technicians to further understand the overall system operation theory, software and hardware considerations, software support facilities, carry out competent "O", "I" and "D" level maintenance of equipment.
In an interview, 23-year-old Siti Nabihah said she felt proud to be one of the two female system simulation technicians from the TSC of RBTS being sent for the training.
"It is unexpected and I will get as much knowledge as possible and gain as much as I can from the training," she said.
She hoped that when she returned, she would be able to share all that she has learned with other technicians and colleagues.
Emy Nurfateen shared that she felt nervous because it was her first time being sent to a country far away.
She told The Brunei Times of her future plans where she would like to try and open up a class and run a maintenance programme in order to share the knowledge she gained from the training.
"My parents were reluctant at first to let me go, but then they did and they were proud of me," said 24-year-old Emy Nurfateen.
Seeing the two technicians off yesterday was Acting Chief Executive of RBTS, Hjh Rosmawati Hj Manaf and Dk Nurul Afizah Pg Omar, TSC management representative.
Hjh Rosmawati said it was an important milestone for RBTS to invest on their employees so they could develop the best assets for the organisation, as this was in line with its competency which was to help build up a community of technologists to service the technology needs of the nation.
She added that RBTS is also a strong advocate for women advancement especially in this daunting field where it is a male dominated industry.
